john gough

Hi, my name is John Gough and I think I’m living proof of the saying that I’m busier now than when I was working. In between cycling, swimming and gardening I take my pictures.

My favourite genre is monochrome and I’m not really sure how I got there because I love sport and I love landscapes, yet my most successful images are monochrome and quite graphic.

My scientific background means I like the technical aspects of photography, so using ISO 1600 for 16 seconds at f8 to get an image of the Northern Lights is somehow quite attractive. Similarly, long exposure images are definitely one of my favourites and these often make great monochrome images.

Let me take a break and tell you about my other passion, (besides my wife). I ride about 10,000 12,000 km per year on my racing bike and mountain bike. You really get to appreciate the scenery on a bike and there is meant to be an added benefit of keeping me healthy.

My pie in the sky ambition is to try and combine cycling and photography. How about mountain bikes in the Lake District with like minded people all carrying low weight photography gear and stopping to take landscapes? Maybe one day!

In the meantime, I’m going to stick with monochrome images for this Fine Art venture. I hope you like them.
