An Empty Bliss Beyond This World

A collection of 15 abstract images by Hans Jørgen Bendixen, a Danish photographer and digital artist.

“A few years ago, a friend drew my attention to the album: "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World" by the British ambient musician Leyland Kirby aka: The Caretaker. Kirby’s album was inspired by the fact that people suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, when listening to music from their younger days, have been found to become less aggravated and able to remember episodes and emotions from that period of their life.

When I listened to the album the very first time, images swarmed forth on my inner screen. I literally saw places, situations, artefacts, emotions etc. from my own life in the music.

From the first attempt to create a digital artwork based on a track from The Caretaker's album, it was clear to me that the selection of the basic material took on a very large and special significance. Regardless of which of the 15 tracks I have worked with, I have chosen photos of places, situations etc about which I truly can say: "This is a part of my life that I want to remember."

The 15 artworks can thus be said to be my interpretation of The Caretaker's compositions. Hopefully they can provide the viewers with opportunities to reflect on their own life, their own story and become aware of individually important places, situations etc.”
